WINGLET DESIGN
Structural Design and CFD Analysis
During my Master's Degree at Embry-Riddle, I worked in conjunction with Dassault Falcon Jet on a multi-disciplinary design project to develop a Supplemental Type Certificate for a winglet for the Falcon 10 business jet. The project involved a wide variety of tasks, from overall planing  to CFD analysis and FEA structural modeling.
Winglet Design: About

In order to predict pressure distributions on the wing as well as the interference between the wing and the winglet, a CFD model was created. Since the model required a lot of precision (16 million cells) and in order to obtain results in a timely manner, I was granted access to the school's super computer. Simulations took around 6 hours to complete (the model ran for 30,000 iterations). The results were then imported into an FEA model to perform structural analysis.
Winglet Design: About

AÂ structural model was created to determine the stresses of all wing components using FEA. Out of all three load cases, the sideslip was found to be the most critical. High pressure loads on the outside surface of the winglet created higher than usual bending moments on the wing structure. It was determined that the wing would need reinforcement to resist the loads.
